Each participant had the opportunity to stay
with a Japanese family in a home. The family and educator were carefully
matched with similar interests. Mrs. Carroll was assigned to a family of four:
father (English teacher in middle school), mother (music teacher of voice and
piano at home), son, age seven, and daughter, age four. The family lived in
Mishima City in a single family home built five years ago. It was an inviting
and comfortable home with a side yard with lots of beautiful plants. Mrs.
Carroll enjoyed a BBQ outside, a walking tour of the neighborhood, a church
service, dinner in a Tatami room at a restaurant, and a visit to the city park
including soft ice cream. The home stay was one of the trip highlights and it
was very meaningful. Mrs. Carroll continues to correspond with the family and
hopes that they will visit her in the future.
